A Christmas wish came true for a mum with a young autistic son who appealed for people to send him Christmas cards because he loves to display them.
The mum, who only wants to be identified as Mary, posted on the Falmouth and Penryn community Facebook page asking if people would mind sending her son Shaun Christmas cards.
She said her son had been badly bullied at his last school leaving him with very low self-esteem and with hardly any friends.
They had moved down the Falmouth area but didn’t know anyone down here and would only get a few cards from family members.
Posting on the page, she said: “I hope this doesn’t sound too silly, but my young boy would love Christmas cards sent to him if possible.
“We’ve just moved down here due to personal reasons and he will only get a few from family members, but his only wish for Christmas was to receive Christmas cards because he loves to display them.
“He was bullied a lot from his last school due to him having autism and has really low self-esteem with hardly any friends.
“So I’m hoping this is a way to cheer him up and knowing he is thought of thanks from a very grateful mother.”
The response to her post was immediate with hundreds of people wanting to send Christmas card with over 700 people commenting.
Mary said she was overwhelmed by the response.
“Thank you so much everyone for the overwhelming support I didn’t expect this much response at all I’m so shocked, my son will definitely not be expecting this I appreciate the kindness so far.”
There were so many people wanting to send Shaun cards that page administrator Rachel Jeanne Monique stepped in providing a care of address for people to send their cards to.
Posting in Facebook she said: “This group is an incredible community! We are delighted to be able to use this platform for something to bring happiness.”
Mary thanked Rachel and the community saying the wonderful people from the community had brought “tears to her eyes”
"I just would like to say a massive thank you to Rachel Jeanne Monique she’s such a sweet angel and pillar to this community," she said.
“She’s taken the time to arrange all of this, me and my son has had a hard year as were currently in temporary accommodation, so seeing his face lit up on Christmas Day from all the cards being sent by the wonderful people from this community brings me to tears.
"I can't thank each and every one of you for taking the time to make my boys Christmas special."
