More than £25,000 was raised by Children's Hospice South West on Sunday as the charity returned to the Eden Project for its annual Santas on the Run event.
The popular fundraising event saw more than 600 supporters of all ages, dressed in a range of Christmas costumes, take on the festive 2km route which included the Mediterranean biome.
There were festive-themed stations that included the Elfie Selfie Station, as well as ‘snow’, ‘song’ and ‘sweet’ stations, sponsored by Towergate Insurance, Steve Andrews Tyres, Moose Toys and FAC Property and Letting.
Kiley Pearce, events fundraiser at the charity, said: “Seeing people of all ages gather today in their home-made costumes and with such enthusiasm for fundraising is just so special.
“They all contributed to funding hundreds of hours of Christmas magic for the children and families that use Little Harbour.
“We want to say a huge thank you to the Eden Project for their continued support of this event and for allowing all our participants free entry to the attraction as part of their day.”
Providing entertainment were Cornwall Rock Choir and South West Philharmonia and Chorus led by Marcus Alleyne, while Crooked Tempo Samba Band and Rewind Radio got everyone in the spirit of things with Christmassy tunes in the event village.
Money raised from Santas on the Run will go towards offering care and support to local families who use Children’s Hospice South West’s three hospices, including Little Harbour in St Austell.
Little Harbour supports 140 children with life-limiting illnesses or conditions, and their families, providing short breaks, respite and palliative care as well as end of life care and bereavement support. Its doors are open 365 days a year and will be a home-from-home for families over the festive period too.
