Falmouth coastguard rescue team have again urged dog owners to keep their pets on leads near cliffs after having to rescue a fallen spaniel.

The team, along with Porthleven Coastguard Team, were called to 'Middle Point', near Falmouth at 3.40pm on Monday, December 5 after receiving a report of a dog going over a cliff.

Once they arrived, it was discovered that a spaniel had gone over a cliff having disappeared following a walk in nearby woods.

Team members rigged the rope rescue equipment and a specialist rope rescue technician was lowered to the dog and placed it in our animal rescue bag. Both dog and technician were safely recovered to the top.

The dog was placed back into the care of some very grateful owners.

Following the incident the coastguard team posted on its Facebook page: "It goes without saying, please keep dogs on leads around cliffs.

"In this case the owners did the right thing when they realised that the dog had gone over the cliff. They didn't put themselves in danger and called 999 and asked for the coastguard."
