A Cornish musical and pantomime society is bringing Dick Whittington to Redruth’s Regal Theatre this January. 

After the pandemic put a stop to the annual pantomime, Redruth Amateur Musical and Pantomime Society - otherwise known as RAMPS are delighted to be back this year, following a blockbuster production of Shrek earlier this autumn.

Other recent RAMPS shows at The Regal have included Sleeping Beauty, The Sound of Music, and Robin Hood. Dick Whittington is said to be one of Cornwall’s biggest pantomimes, packed full of songs and spectacle, magic, and merriment.

Featuring a live band and more than 40 dancers, this is a show perfect for all the family this January.

The audience will follow the story of poor Dick Whittington as he travels to London to find his fortune, believing “the streets are paved with gold.” Will he triumph and will his dreams come true, or will he be foiled by the evil King Rat?

Joining Dick on this adventure are the loveable cook Sarah, forgetful Fairy Belle, The Captain, and Miss Mate, Mrs Fitzwarren, and her daughter Alice, the heroine of the tale!

Director Ben Blaber said: “I am thrilled to present Dick Whittington.

“It is a show packed with the panto traditions of laugh-out-loud comedy, amazing singing, great choreography, some incredible special effects, and of course a lot of hissing and booing.

“It'll be a fantastic evening's entertainment, oh yes it will.”

Redruth Regal's theatre manager Helena Tondryk-Wilde said: "We are so looking forward to having Ramps back for their Traditional Panto.

“Dick Whittington has been through the pandemic mill, but finally the wait is over, and we can all enjoy some fun this winter!"
