THE LIZARD RNLI Lifeboat Station recorded its first launch of 2023 yesterday (Jan 2) after receiving reports of a angling vessel suffering from complete engine failure.
The call came in just before 3pm on Monday, January 2 when two people aboard a 23ft angling vessel reported a complete engine failure.
The vessel was located three miles south east of Coverack and, under the command of Coxswain Dan Atkinson RNLB Rose launched.
The crew assessed that, as the vessel was becalmed it was decided to attach a tow and take it back to its mooring in St Mawes.
Crews arrived shortly before 5pm and the vessel was safely placed back on its moorings just after 6pm.
In an update posted to its social media page, The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station said: "Our first service launch of 2023 came this afternoon at 2.58pm when our crew pagers sounded.
"Under the command of Coxswain Dan Atkinson RNLB Rose launched on service to go to the assistance of a 23ft angling vessel suffering from complete engine failure.
"With two people on board and in a position of 3 miles south east of Coverack, RNLB Rose arrived on scene and an assessment of the best course of action was carried out.
"As the vessel was becalmed it was decided to attach a tow and take it back to its mooring in St Mawes.
"Arriving there shortly before 5pm the vessel was safely placed on its moorings and RNLB Rose made the return journey home arriving back at the station just after 6pm."
