One of Falmouth’s most popular entertainment venues is running a Crowdfunder to buy meals for vulnerable people this winter.

The Cornish Bank in Church Street, has teamed up with Falmouth and Penryn Foodbank to provide subsidised meals in its canteen cooked by top chef extraordinaire Tessa J.

The Crowdfunding appeal will make the meals even more available to all those who need some extra support in the community by providing meal tokens for subscribers at Falmouth & Penryn Food Bank. Every donation is being match-funded so every donator’s one pound equals two.

“The more we raise the more we can help vulnerable people this winter,” co-owner of the Cornish Bank Rufus Maurice told the Packet.

Since it launched at the end of last year the Crowdfunder at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/the-food-bank-canteen has raised over £4,000 towards its target of £5,000, but aims to raise more.

Rufus told the Packet: “We have a warm building that already provides home cooked meals at cost price to our community which has helped people afford to socialise and eat but still it's not enough and lots of people can't afford to pay even cost price at the moment.

"So we wanted to find a way of feeding people for free so that they are still able to enjoy the company of others.

"Poverty can be very isolating and the energy costs of preparing fresh food are becoming prohibitive for many people, anyone of us at any point in our lives could find we have to rely on a food bank.

"We have the heating on and the building full of kind people it only makes sense to share it as much as we can.

The Bank Canteen is a not for profit project, using local and sustainable produce. Tessa J has hit our cooks up hot, nutritious dinners for everybody to enjoy.

“We want to welcome as many people as possible to eat together at The Cornish Bank,” said Rufus.

The Crowdfunder runs for another eight days.
