Tributes have been paid to a former mayor of Falmouth who has died three days into the new year.
Maureen Davies, former town councillor, Carrick District Councillor and Mayor of Falmouth died on Tuesday, January 3.
Falmouth Town Council paid tribute to Maureen saying it was "with great sadness" that it had learned of her passing.
Maureen was a long-serving Falmouth Town Councillor, representing Arwenack ward for over 21 years. She was also a Carrick District Councillor and was Mayor of Falmouth for three years from 2002 to 2005.
Maureen was also a member of Falmouth’s Twinning Committee for over twenty years, on which she served as either secretary or chairman for most of that time.
On behalf of the town council, current mayor, Cllr Steve Eva said: “Everyone at Falmouth Town Council is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Maureen.
As a former town councillor, district councillor and Mayor of Falmouth, Maureen served the people of Falmouth for over two decades. Her quiet commitment and considered approach to her responsibilities at both town and district level earned her the enduring respect of everyone who worked with her.
"Whilst Maureen’s loss will be keenly felt, her legacy will endure through her longstanding work on Falmouth’s Twinning Committee, promoting and strengthening our ties with Douarnenez in France and Rotenberg Wümme in Germany, a cause she and her beloved late husband Bob were passionate about.
"We thank Maureen for everything she has done for Falmouth, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family at this sad time.”
