A POPULAR Cornish brewery that went into administration last year has been purchased by a mystery buyer, subject to contract.

Skinner's Brewery, based in Truro, has produced ales beloved by beer drinkers across the country, including the popular Porthleven, Lushingtons, and of course Betty Stogs, for 25 years.

The brewery announced it would be closing its doors and entering into administration on October 6 2022, with Betty Stoggs AKA Fred Thomas, saying he will continue to raise money for charity 'one way or another'.

However, it was announced today that a sale had been agreed, subject to contract, of the company’s business and assets to an unconnected party.

In a statement published on its website, Bishop Flemming LLP said: "Luke Venner and Malcolm Rhodes of Bishop Fleming LLP, the Joint Administrators of Skinner’s Brewing Co. Limited which formerly entered Administration on the 6 October 2022, are pleased to confirm that a sale of the Company’s business and assets to an unconnected party has been agreed, subject to contract.

"The proposed sale follows a concerted nationwide marketing campaign and advanced discussions with a number of parties."

Luke Venner, Restructuring Director at Bishop Fleming, said: “As Joint Administrator, we are delighted to secure the sale of the Company’s business and assets, subject to contract, which will realise significant funds for the benefit of Company creditors."

The company suffered during the coronavirus pandemic, with pubs forced to close for so long and it also having to close its popular brewery tours.

The identity of the buyer has not yet been revealed and no future plans for the company have been made public.
