A community park in Camborne could be transformed with plans to install a skate park, pavilion building, multi-use games area and a sensory garden.
An outline planning application has been submitted for the major project to reinvigorate Park Gerry in Camborne.
The project is part of schemes that are to be delivered using money from the Town Deal and will see a number of new facilities installed. The plans also include new public toilets, parking areas and dog walking areas.
A design and access statement explains: “The site currently consists of three large fields (just under four hectares), containing a disused football pitch, some hedgerows and trees.
"It is currently used mainly for dog walking, and until recently for weekly open space activities organised by ParkPlay. There are no formal facilities, parking, pathways or seating.
“The vision is to reinvigorate Park Gerry to create a healthy place for healthy lives at the heart of Camborne; a space for the community, built by the community.
"The project aims to strengthen an under-utilised community asset, enhancing the spaces in order to be accessible to all, providing future-proofed community facilities within an enriched environment for generations to come.
“Another objective is to improve the connection of this space to others within the area, improving the visibility of the park through wayfinding within the surrounding urban environment, drawing on the heritage and culture within the area to create a sense of place and arrival.”
Among the plans for the park are:
• A skatepark and wheeled sports facility
• Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) plus outdoor gym/activity facilities
• A ‘pavilion’ block and space for community hire
• Re-instatement of a full-size football pitch
• Public toilets
• Sensory garden
• Accessible pathways with seating
• Wildflower meadows with areas for natural play
• Improved dog walking areas with better pathways
• Sufficient car parking
The plans add that the project wants to create an "improved sense of security and safety."
