The former secondary school of a man who died while trying to save others in Ukraine has paid tribute to its former student.

Chris Parry, 28 was born in Truro but moved to Cheltenham. He was reported missing earlier this month along with Andrew Bagshaw, 47.

The two British nationals were killed while attempting a ‘human evacuation,’ family members have said.

Penair Secondary School, Truro has paid tribute to Chris in a post on its Facebook page. It said: “It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of ex-pupil Chris Parry.

“Chris left Penair School in the summer of 2011. He had previously attended Kea Primary School and staff who have long memories of him. I do recall him fondly.

“While at Penair Chris had an attendance record that would have been the envy of many pupils nowadays over his five years and his outstanding set of GCSEs offered him the opportunity to select from a very wide range of A-level courses at Further Education.

“We were recently contacted by Chris where he shared with us the fantastic work that he was doing in Ukraine. The fundraising support enabled him to obtain a vehicle that he used with his colleague to transport Ukrainians away from war zone areas to more peaceful areas in Ukraine.

“Like others have shared in the local and national media, we are truly saddened by his loss and our thoughts go out to his family and friends.”
