THE new caretaker managers of a popular pub in Falmouth have spoken of their excitement about taking over the reins of the well-loved establishment.
Lara and Tom Trubshaw have taken over as caretakers for the Pennycomequick in Falmouth and will be hosting a soft launch tonight (Jan 27) and tomorrow (Jan 28) to introduce themselves to regulars and the community.
The pair have said they're looking forward to taking on their third site in Cornwall since 2020 as they also run The Peterville Inn in St Agnes, and the Wig and Pen in Truro, which opened last March.
Lara and Tom have told The Packet there will be a limited menu tonight and Saturday with a full opening taking place on Monday.
Lara said: "We’re really excited to be taking the reins of the Pennycomequick, a pub which has built an unbelievable reputation under Lucky and Whitey’s tenure.
"It's somewhere we used to go and have dinner ourselves.
"We're really looking forward to meeting everyone this evening when the doors are open."
Lara also said the new managers would be looking to set up an online booking system in order to make it easier for people to get tables, as well as working on new menus.
Lara continued: "We’re passionate about continuing to provide great food, drinks and, of course, that all-important Cornish welcome which has become the pub’s signature.
"Taking on a third pub since 2020 is certainly breaking the mould given the current climate and although we face the same challenges as other hospitality businesses we are extremely passionate about this site which we believe is a perfect fit with our other two pubs in Truro and St Agnes.
"We couldn’t do anything without our incredible teams - we truly have some of the very best people working with us and without them we’d never be able to balance three businesses plus our three children who are all under ten.
"It’s a good job we like being busy!"
