Saint Piran Pro Cycling National Track Championships

Saint Piran Pro Cycling riders won four golds, three silver and three bronze medals at the event hosted at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales in Newport.

Their success rivaled British Cycling’s own Olympian-filled ‘Team Inspired’.

This was made even more impressive as it’s the first time Saint Piran has attended the event. 

New recruits Charlie Tanfield and Ella Barnwell were amongst the gold medals and Devon’s own Will Tidball won gold and silver.

The weekend’s success firmly puts the South West on the map for track cycling.

Richard Pascoe, Team Owner said: "This is a major step for the team and for the riders themselves. It was an incredible display and one that the South West as a whole can be proud of.

"Ten medals from our riders is something special.

"Saint Piran was set up to have an impact in racing, cycling and in society. We definitely had an impact in racing this weekend and that success can only inspire kids in the South West to get on bikes.

"Now for the rest of the season – it really is an exciting time for cycling in the region."

While the track championships were underway, Saint Piran was running open mountain bike rides for the community in Bissoe, Cornwall.

The weekend activities also coincided with their new women’s mountain bike team racing for the first time in Newnham, Plymouth as part of South West Mountain Biking Winter Wake Up event. 

In the Elite Category, Saint Piran’s Christina Wiejak came second behind World Champion Evie Richards with the team’s Sharn Hooper coming third.

In the Expert category Saint Piran celebrated a first and second with Charlotte Gibson taking the top step and Jenny Bolsom taking second.
