Devon and Cornwall Police have released more information after a main road in Helston was closed on Thursday afternoon and reports of a "bang" being heard.
Falmouth Road by Gwealdues was closed off by Devon and Cornwall Police, with one witness saying they had seen a bomb disposal van pass by them.
A few hours later, unofficial reports circulated on Facebook that an unexploded device had been found.
At 4.42pm, a member of the public posted on Facebook, asking if anyone else had heard a "big bang".
Now it has emerged that a hand grenade was discovered.
Devon and Cornwall Police released a statement to the Packet this morning regarding the incident.
