Cornwall Council has confirmed there will be a delay in finalising payment options at a Falmouth car park because of stabilisation works taking place.
Concerns were raised that new automatic pay on exit machines newly installed at the Quarry car park would never be able to be used and were not “fit for purpose”.
Printed signs have been attached to the machines saying “The pay on exit technology is not yet operational in this car park. Please continue to use the pay and display macines or pay by mobile phone payment option”
One regular user of the car park, who highlighted the issue to the Packet, said he thought the machines were not ‘fit for purpose’.
“I have been told by someone that works for the council that they will never be used as they are not suitable for The Quarry car park.
“I pay in the car park every day for work, I have lost count of the amount of people I have directed t the pay and display machine, as they are confused as to what to do.
The signs on the new machines, which are stuck on with Gaffa tape often blow away so people who are not familiar with the car park, walk around wondering how to pay.”
However in a statement to the Packet, Cornwall Council said: “There has been a delay in finalising the payment options for Quarry Car park due to issues linked to access and the current stabilisation works. There are and will continue to be payment options available.”
Construction work to stabilise the quarry face at Town Quarry Carpark began at the end of October 2022, following expert led project planning.
Quarry face vegetation was removed as a preliminary step to enable a comprehensive geotechnical investigation which informed the construction geotechnical design.
