Camborne secured a return to the National Leagues after more than 20 years absence with a pulsating victory over 3rd placed Brixham, writes Martin Symons.
With nearest challengers Chew Valley suffering a shock defeat at Launceston, the Cherry & Whites narrow win ended the Regional South West 1 promotion race three matches early.
Having faced the wind and the slope in the 1st half ‘Town’ stayed in touch trailing by 17-14 at the interval.
Fit-again full back Harry Larkins had bagged their opener and he was followed over by hooker Ben Priddey from a catch & drive. Aaron Simmonds landed both conversions.
The prolific Priddey followed up with a 2nd try and a catch & drive dotted down by Tommy Southworth delivered the bonus point for the Cherry & Whites with fly-half Simmonds again booting the extras but on the hour they still trailed narrowly 31-28.
Coming on strong in the final quarter Camborne regained the lead when prop Southworth completed his brace of touchdowns with Simmonds converting.
Late on Brixham went back in front with a converted score but ‘Town’ were not to be denied and it was young replacement prop Declan Prowse who barged over for the decisive try converted by Simmonds.
