A serious crash in Hayle this morning has left a motorist being airlifted to hospital and one of the roads through the town remaining shut into the evening.

Police were called to reports of a collision involving two vehicles at Upton Towans, Hayle, at around 10.25am today (Wednesday, February 22).

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said at lunchtime that one person had sustained “serious” injuries and had been airlifted to hospital, describing the incident as “ongoing.”

He added: “Emergency services are at the scene and local road closures have been put in place.”

Witnesses reported seeing the air ambulance land.

Traffic monitoring system INRIX reported that Fore Street was closed in both directions due to the collision, with the road shut between the A30 Loggans Moor roundabout and the A30 St Erth roundabout.

It was said to be affecting traffic in and out of Hayle, with drivers warned to expect delays in the area.

Now Loggans Road is reported to still be closed both ways due to collision investigation work between Lidl and Bar Lane.

It is said to be affecting traffic between Loggans and Gwithian.

It is a separate incident to why police were also seen on the A30 near Hayle at the same time this morning.

Police were again called at around 10.25am to the A30 near Hayle, following reports of concern for a man seen on the overbridge.

A force spokesperson said that officers attended and the man was moved to a safe location a short time later, where he spoke to police.
