A rapist who forced himself on a woman who had asked him to bring her cannabis in Falmouth has been jailed for his actions.

Fahd Mohammed Alkhalidi, formerly of Marlborough Road, Falmouth, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court this afternoon, after being found guilty of rape at a trial earlier this month.

The court heard he had caused psychological damage to the woman, who had since moved from her bedsit in Falmouth as a result.

Judge Simon Carr told him: “Having gained access to her house in order to supply cannabis, you raped her.

“She was in her house, where she was entitled to feel safe.”

In mitigation, Alkhalidi’s barrister said there had been no element of planning or targeting the victim.

Judge Carr sentenced the 42-year-old to five years in prison, and he must serve two thirds of that time behind bars before being eligible for release on licence to serve the remainder in the community.

Alkhalidi will also be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

A jury took just over four hours to convict Alkhalidi of rape when he appeared at the court at the start of the month.

The court had been told that the pair entered into a brief sexual relationship in early 2020 after they were introduced through drugs. However she ended it after she found out he was married, but Alkhalidi continued to supply her with cannabis.

She had taken to meeting him outside her bedsit to get the cannabis, to stop him coming and pestering her for sex, but on the night of the rape she let him in as she’d just had a shower and her hair was wet.

Once he was inside he pushed her onto the bed, held her down and raped her before leaving abruptly.

When she texted him the next day saying “that was nearly rape” he apologised.

Alkhalidi, who was born in Kuwait and only came to this country in 2007, had claimed he didn’t know what the word rape meant and he had apologised because he thought she was referring to “rough sex”.

He claimed the sex was consensual and she had been trying to scare him and get money out of him. but the jury didn’t believe him and found him guilty.
