Images of new primary school in Cornwall at Langarth Village Truro

The images show what the Langarth Forest School could look like when built as part of Langarth Garden Village.

The computer-generated pictures have been released ahead of new consultation events next week seeking people’s views on the project.

Langarth Garden Village is the largest development in Cornwall and will eventually have up to 3,500 new homes.

Outline planning permission has been granted for the overall development and last week the first full planning application was approved – to create a new 88-acre park on the site. Planning applications are expected to soon be submitted for the new school.

The proposed new primary school would have two-form entry and up to 420 pupils along with 45 pre-school places. The school would also be able to expand to a three form entry in future.

Developers have said they want the forest primary school to be an “exemplar” and that it would have a sustainable design which would ensure it is net zero carbon once open. It is planned to be built at the same time as the first phase of housing at Langarth Garden Village.

Local councillors have been briefed on the latest plans and have said they have been impressed by the developer’s commitment to ensure that infrastructure such as the school and park are in place when people start to move into new homes. Langarth Garden Village is being developed by Treveth, Cornwall Council’s wholly owned development company.

Dulcie Tudor, independent Cornwall councillor for Threemilestone, Chacewater and Langarth, said: “The council is already delivering on its promise by submitting detailed plans putting infrastructure such as the school, roads, parks, green spaces, allotments, cycle and walkways in first. That is something a private developer would never do.

“My inbox is busy with people asking how they apply for a house at Langarth or if they can set up a business in the ‘village’ centre. I hope as many people come to the public consultation as possible so I can hear their views.

“Now is the time to accept the reality that Langarth Garden Village is going to happen and start putting our energies into making sure the council delivers what it says on the tin and builds a Garden Village in every sense for the best outcome for the families who will living and working there in the years to come.”

The next consultation event will take place next Friday, March 3, at Threemilestone Community Centre between 2pm and 7pm. The new school plans will be available to view and members of the project team will be available to ask questions about this and all other elements of the Langarth Garden Village.
