A beach in Cornwall has been named among the top 25 in Europe.
Tripadvisor has published its list of best beaches in the world and also in Europe.
The UK narrowly missed out on a top ten spot in the Europe list this year, with Gorleston-on-Sea in Norfolk the highest ranking British beach at number 12.
Cornwall secured a place in the top 25, with Fistral Beach in Newquay coming in at number 22 in Europe.
The surfing hotspot is said to have 39 hotels, 107 bed and breakfasts or inns, and 945 holiday rentals according to Tripadvisor.
With an average score of 4.5 out of 5 from 4,477 reviews, it is listed as number seven out of 42 things to do in Newquay.
Tripadvisor said: “This splendid beach offers excellent water for surfing and body boarding.”
Reviewers on the site are full of praise for its large size, rockpools and for being dog-friendly all year round.
It has now been given a ‘Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best 2023’ award.

Two other beaches on the south coast made the list – Weymouth Beach came in a number 14, while Bournemouth Beach re-entered at number 24, after missing out on a spot in 2022.
Britain’s best ranking beach Gorleston-on-Sea, the lesser known neighbouring beach of Great Yarmouth, is new to the list for 2023, beating beaches across Italy, France and Cyprus. The three mile sandy stretch was the backdrop to the Richard Curtis film.
However, the number one place in Europe was claimed by an Icelandic beach. Reynisfjara Beach in Vik also claimed a place on the best in the world list, at number four. With its world famous black sands and imposing rock formations, some may recognise it from Game of Thrones.
Praia da Falésia on Portugal’s Algarve was named number two in Europe, closely followed by Sicillian beach Spiaggia dei Conigli at number three.
The world’s best beach, according to the Tripadvisor community, is Baia do Sancho, located on the volcanic island of Fernando de Noronha, just over 200 miles off the coast of Brazil.
Eagle Beach in Aruba was named number two in the world, while Cable Beach in Western Australia was number three.
