WENDRON Utd have an excellent record so far this season having played 27, won 20, drawn four & lost three, scoring 86 goals with 32 against & a points total of 64, writes Joss Bray.

In their last match, Wendron underestimated Penzance and ended up dropping two points, but there was no chance of a repeat.

Sticker did start brightly and nearly scored in the first minutes when Richard Edworthy burst into the box & crossed to the far post, where Sam Bullen met the ball perfectly and his header, destined for the top corner, was brilliantly tipped over by Ethan Fearn.

At the other end, Wendron responded with a shot by Jack Stocker just wide and the same player had another shot tipped over by Ethan Elwell. The pressure continued with Joe Souch shooting just over the bar.

At this point, the away keeper had to work hard, with a shot from Sam Young going just past the post and interplay between Reece Carroll and Charlie Young resulting in a shot by the latter being well saved by Ethan Elwell.

In the 35th minute, Wendron took the lead, when Joe Chapman broke down the right and delivered a cross into the box which Cam Wheat converted with a great header.

Sam Young, who is coming back to his best form, spraying passes in all directions, was helping to control the mid-field with Lucas Potts & Jack Stocker.

Sam then dribbled into the penalty box and was brought down. His brother Charlie converted the spot kick, with an unstoppable shot into the corner, for a 2-0 lead at the interval.

Wendron began to dominate in the second half and, on 55 minutes, Joe Chapman made a good run down the right wing, passing to Josh Wood whose cross into the box was excellently converted by Jack Stocker for a 3-0 lead.

Sticker then thought they had reduced the arrears but, though clean through, the player was ruled offside. The lead then became 4-0 when another excellent cross from Joe Chapman was met by Cam Wheat with another brilliant-headed finish.

Cam Wheat was then denied a hat-trick of headers when he again met a cross but his great header was brilliantly saved by Ethan Elwell, the Sticker keeper. Most of the second half was played in Sticker territory and it was a case of damage limitation by the away team.

Wendron have no game on Saturday, March 11 but play Millbrook in the Semi-Final of the Senior Cup, on Wednesday, March 15, on the Wadebridge Town pitch with a 7:30pm kick off.
