A pet cemetery has asked Cornwall Council for pre-application advice for improvements to its facilities.

The St Francis Pet Cemetery and Memorial Garden is looking to make changes to its site at St Newlyn East.

It is proposing to replace some existing outbuildings and pet cremator along with a new permanent containerised cremator and changing the use of an existing building for activities relating to the crematorium business.

A letter submitted to the council states: “It is now proposed to upgrade the cremator present on-site through the installation of a replacement cremator that benefits from technological advances in efficiency and reduction of emissions.

"This will enable the site to operate more efficiently, providing economic benefits to PCS (the operators).

“The proposed replacement cremator would also provide environmental benefits, with comparatively lower environmental impacts as a result of its operation to higher environmental standards.

"The replacement cremator itself would be located within the confines of a new outbuilding. It is therefore considered that the installation of the cremator itself does not constitute ‘development’ and does not specifically require planning permission.”
