Police have confirmed that a 12-year-old boy has died following a collision in Pool yesterday.
Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a white Iveco van and a young pedestrian on the A3047 Agar Road junction with Wilson Way, Pool, near Redruth at around 3.35pm, as many children would have been walking home from school.
The boy died at the scene as a result of his injuries. His family have been made aware and are being supported by specialist family liaison officers.
A 67-year-old man from Hayle has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and on suspicion of driving whilst unfit. He remains in police custody at this time.
The road was closed for some time to allow an investigation to take place, led by the Roads Policing Team. It was reopened at around 1am on today (Tuesday, March 14).
Police investigating the collision are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Officers hope anyone who has any information or dashcam footage that could help with the inquiry to come forward. People can make contact via the Devon and Cornwall Police website or by calling 101 quoting reference number 50230058989.
There will also be a pop-up police surgery held at Morrisons' car park on Agar Road between 1pm and 2pm today, Tuesday, for members of the community and or witnesses to speak to officers.
A police spokesperson added: "In addition, members of the public will also see local officers undertaking high visibility patrols at the start and end of the school day in the area for the next few days to provide added for reassurance."
The air ambulance was called to the scene of the collision yesterday, with traffic monitoring system INRIX reporting the A3047 Agar Road being closed in both directions due to a serious incident between The Plume of Feathers Pub and The Railway Inn Pub, near to Morrisons.
