A PETROL station Falmouth has applied for planning permission for an extension that would be used for a new 'food-to-go' area.

The Falmouth Service Station, also known as Esso MFG Falmouth, is located on Dracaena Avenue in Falmouth and is looking to extend the existing retail building with a single-storey side extension to the current forecourt sales building.

The application has been submitted by Wyeth Projects Services on behalf of Motor Fuel Group, and is currently awaiting a decision after being validated on Wednesday, March 22.

According to the plans: "The application scheme proposes to extend the current forecourt shop building with a single-storey side extension.

"Within the extension, there will be a new Food to Go area, to improve services provided at the site and to commuting customers.

"Additionally, there will be a new compound unit behind the extension with a new retaining wall to match the existing walling and adjustment of the embankment to suit the exterior."

The application claims that the scheme: “represents a continuing investment into the area around Dracaena Avenue, a major through route channeling from northern Falmouth to South Falmouth, connecting the centre to outer town and wider residential and commercial areas

It also states that: "The proposed scheme can provide the opportunity for new jobs if possible," and that it will "bring additional consumer choice for customers commuting on the major road to/from Falmouth, as well as connecting to the wider national highway network."

The application goes on to explain that the new facility's opening hours will remain the same as is currently operated and that the new site will look to employ eight full-time, and six part-time employees.

In the conclusion of its design and access statement, the applicant states: "It is considered the application proposal is of an appropriate design and will provide amenity benefits to residents.

"The proposal is of high-quality design and consideration has been given to sustainable design and construction in accordance with policy."
