A ‘unique’ theatre company will come to the Minack next month – and the audience gets to choose what they would like to see performed.
ShakeItUp Theatre Company will bring ‘The Improvised Shakespeare Show’, to the Minack Theatre from May 23-24.
ShakeItUp combines long-form improvisation with the language, characters, and themes of Shakespeare’s works; the result is a completely new Shakespeare play made up entirely on the spot using audience suggestions and the performer's wild imagination.
At the start of each show, the audience will get to pick their preferred Shakespearean genre. Anything from history to romantic comedy; gruesome to tragedy. From here, the company will weave a brand-new play accompanied by improvised music and songs from the ShakeItUp band.

Expect big laughs, high drama, and a healthy dose of rhyming couplets.
ShakeItUp was founded by graduates from the Guildford School of Acting in 2018. The company now has a residency at London’s Hen and Chicken’s Theatre, and they continue to perform across the UK, and even internationally in Italy, Poland and Germany.
Alongside the Improvised Shakespeare Show, ShakeItUp also offers workshops and courses in improvisation in a range of settings. They have worked extensively in the prison education sector and ran a successful ten-week improvisation course at London’s Pentonville Prison.
