A Cornish village will host its first annual art competition next month - with the winners and runners-up receiving cash prizes.
The Porthleven Harbour Art Prize will take place over 14 days next month. The two weeks will include submissions, judging, awards and a free public exhibition in Porthleven’s historic Netloft building from May 21 to 29.
The competition will be the theme of ‘Porthleven and its Environment’ and hopes to encourage people to take part in painting in locations across the village in the run-up to the competition, which is open to all forms of 2D media except for photography - although it is hoped that this and sculpture may be added as categories in future years.
A panel of local and national artists, experts and competition supporters will judge entries.

The winner of the competition will receive a prize of £2,000 and the runner-up will receive £500.
There will also be two categories for children, aged up to 13 years and for 13 to 18-year-olds. The young winners of this competition will receive £100.
Finally there will be a People’s Choice Prize, which will be voted for by the public visiting the exhibition.
The new competition will come under the umbrella of Porthleven Arts, a community interest company that supports "arts, innovation and creativity in the wildest sense" and presents the annual autumn Porthleven Arts Festival.
