A GROUP of residents from Falmouth have received a 'Judge's Favourite' award for their entry into the Falmouth Spring Flower Show - a discarded shopping trolley filled with flowers made from litter.
The "Seaview Litterpickers", based at the Seaview Inn, have been organising a monthly litterpick on their local streets for several years and currently has over 40 volunteers taking part.
This year, one of its members suggested that the group submit an entry to the Falmouth Spring Flower Show, and set about putting together a flower-inspired display constructed entirely out of litter.
The display was mounted in a discarded shopping trolley.
The end result proved a great success with organisers Henrietta Boex, Jacqui Owen & Jean Carr and visitors alike, and our display, entitled "A Litterpicker's Dream of Spring" not only resulted in large numbers of photographers capturing an image for posterity, but also earned a special "Judges' Favourite" award.
It also appeared in the foyer of the Falmouth Town Council Offices on the Moor.
Robert Coleman of The Seaview Litterpickers told The Packet: "Our motivation was not only to support the Flower Show, but also to highlight the issue of the battle against litter in Falmouth's streets, and an opportunity to enthuse further recruits to our join group."
