Family and the community have been paying tribute to a former councillor from Helston following news of his death.

Ron Edgcumbe died during the morning of Flora Day last Friday.

It is understood his passing follows a period of ill health.

Mr Edgcumbe was a town councillor in Helston from 2016, up to the last local council elections in 2021.

During meetings he would speak up for the community of Helston, in particular pushing for strong policing in the town and championing health matters.

His daughter Hayley told the Packet: "My dad was a beloved dad, loving husband to his late wife Ruth - who he missed greatly since she passed in February of this year - dedicated son and brother, who will be greatly missed.

"He was always there for the ones he loved and someone who was always doing his best in life.

"We are very proud and lucky to have known him and had him in our lives."

Paying tribute on Wednesday, Helston mayor Tim Grattan-Kane said: “'On the morning of Flora Day I was saddened to hear that a former Helston town councillor, Ron Edgcumbe, had passed away after a battle with illness.

“Ron had been a councillor between 2016 and 2021. He held strong views and was very concerned for the future of Helston.

“I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends at this time.”
