LIFEBOATS near Penzance were called out on a shout this week after reports came in of two paddleboarders in difficulty off the coast of a beach in Cornwall.
Penlee Lifeboat responded to the call at the request of Falmouth Coastguard and found a paddleboarder who had come into difficulty off Marazion Beach due to the wind.
The man had been struggling to get back to shore and his daughter had come to his assistance
In an update posted on its social media account, a spokesperson for Penlee Lifeboat said: "On May 21 at 5:31pm, RNLI Penlee’s B class Atlantic 85 was launched at the request of Falmouth Coastguard to assist two paddleboarders who were reported to be in difficulty off Marazion beach.
"In fair weather with a stiff easterly breeze the RNLI Volunteers made good speed across the bay to find a paddleboarder in need of assistance unable to cope with the wind.
"A gentleman on a paddleboard with a sail had been struggling to get back to the beach and his daughter went to his assistance, after a time the gentleman managed to return to the beach unaided and his daughter received help from our RNLI volunteers who returned her to the beach.
"After checking that the gentleman was ok, the RNLI inshore lifeboat ‘Mollie and Ivor Dent” returned to base in Newlyn by 6:10pm.
"Always carry a means of calling for help on your person. You must be able to reach it easily in an emergency. If it can’t be reached, it’s no help. Consider taking a mobile phone with the SafeTrx app.
"Always check the weather forecast and tide times. Don’t get caught out by the conditions. Avoid offshore winds because they will tire you quickly when trying to return to shore
"Always wear a personal flotation device. Make sure you are also wearing suitable clothing for the forecasted conditions."
