Past pupils and teachers of Wendron Primary School are invited back to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the school building this month.

To mark two decades since it opened, the school is holding an open afternoon and celebration on Friday, June 16.

Between 1pm and 4.30pm, past pupils, parents and staff are being invited back into the school to join the current cohort and their families for an afternoon of nostalgia and celebrations.

There will be live music, a bouncy castle, candy floss, cake and popcorn, as well as Pimms and a glitter bar to add glamour to the occasion.

The school, near Helston in Cornwall, was previously based across the road, in a smaller building constructed in the 1830s, which has since been converted into a house.

The new site was officially opened in June 2003, following a £1 million project that saw a new building sited on what was part of the old school’s playing field.

Princess Alexandra, whose official title is The Honourable Lady Ogilvy, and who is first cousin to the late Queen Elizabeth, was guest of honour at the opening.

She was given a tour of the new facilities, followed by refreshments in the school hall, before being escorted outside where the then Bishop of Truro, the Rt Rev Bill Ind, said a prayer and blessed the school.

The Princess was then invited to officially open the school and unveil a commemorative stone before being presented with a gift of a book on the history of Wendron School.
