A super adventure is in store at one Cornish attraction this summer with a brand-new trail, inspired by the renowned picture book Superworm.
From July 8 to September 10, the exclusive adventure trail at The Lost Garden of Heligan, in partnership with Magic Light, will follow the wiggly, underground superhero’s journey through a section of Heligan’s 200-acre working estate, taking in meadows and woodland walks to showcase the superpowers of soil, and the minibeasts and mega-beings who live in the soil.
Woodland play areas, iconic outdoor sculptures and views of wildflower meadows will all be part of the adventure with activities and incredible facts to learn along the way.
Fans of the long, strong worm with amazing skills can have a go at the Superworm lasso, take on the Superworm skipping challenge and enter the Super-Tent to dig for treasure, get up close to a wormery and join knot-tying workshops.

Plus, every week on Super-Skills Thursdays, there’s the chance to learn how to juggle, unicycle and even walk a tightrope with professional acrobats.
“Worms bring such a positive impact to the soil they’re in; they’re the little guys of creativity and regeneration, and this is so beautifully illustrated by Superworm," said Laura Chesterfield, head of the visitor experience at Heligan.
We’re big fans of the book and hugely passionate about telling the story of soil health so it’s the perfect pairing."
Alex Sanson, senior brand manager at Magic Light said: “We are thrilled Superworm has been chosen to lead the insect revolution at Heligan this summer.
“He’s a little worm with a big heart, always ready to help his friends, so he’s the ideal character to head up Heligan’s Soil Superheroes”.
The trail wiggles through Heligan’s 200-acre estate, where children can keep their eye out for a range of wildlife, spot creepy crawlies beside Bugginghum Palace Bug Hotel – the record-breaking nesting space for insect and invertebrate life, and in specially created shepherd’s huts, listen to interviews with the minibeasts and mega-heroes of the soil, voiced by Steve Backshall, and Merlin Sheldrake among others.
The Superworm family experience sits alongside Heligan’s other family-friendly activities, including the South West’s largest outdoor playground, Heligan Play Meadow where energetic kids can climb, slide, and scramble across the natural wooden course.
Heligan’s jungle is also home to the Burmese Rope Bridge, where families can explore the UK’s only outdoor jungle.
The Superworm trail is included in the cost of garden entry which starts from £9.50 per person and is free for local and member pass holders. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome.
