A Falmouth institution is to have a change of name and a change of focus after being taken over by new owners this year.

Dolly's Tea Room above Falmouth Bookseller in Church Street is to change its name to The Morgawr, after Falmouth's mystical beast and will become a "hub" for local talent.

Barney and Abi, both 28, took over the iconic Dolly’s Tea Rooms in Church Street in February after former owner Dolly Makin decided to call it a day.

They say they want it to become an exciting new space in the heart of Falmouth, with The Morgawr a spot for fans of live entertainment, local beers & spirits, cocktails, light-bites and more.

In another change they will also sell guitars and instruments from some of the very best independent makers across the South West, as well as stocking a range of accessories and vinyl records.

The stage will play host to up to four live events per week, with a range of entertainment including music, comedy and more.

"We hope to be a hub for local talent, championing grass-roots musicians from all genres, in addition to well-known artists from further afield," they said in a post on Facebook.

"We will still be serving your favourite hot drinks as well as a range of small-plates, homemade cakes and bar snacks. Local Draught Beers, Ales and Ciders will be available on tap, in addition to a themed cocktail menu that tells the tale of The Morgawr and incorporates Cornish spirits.

"Thank you all for supporting Dolly’s over the years, it means so much to independent business owners to have such a loyal customer base as Dolly's does."

They will still be open and trading as ‘Dolly’s’ for another week, and will be closing out by hosting acts across Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival next weekend before becoming Morgawr on June 24.

"We are really excited to put our own stamp on this beautiful space, and hope you will join us for our launch weekend on 24th and 25th June when we host a weekend of live music in celebration of our new venture, joined by several local and well known faces."
