Police searching for 21-year-old Jack Thomas, who was reported missing from the Cornwall area on Sunday 11 June, have found the body of a man.

The body was located in the Chiverton area at around 12.55pm on Monday 12 June.

Formal identification is yet to take place. The family of Mr Thomas have been informed of this development.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Friends and family had been appealing for any sightings of Jack Thomas, from the West Cornwall area, since Sunday evening after he had not been since 3am that day, in the Chiverton Cross area.

Around 200 young farmers club members from across Cornwall were said to be out searching for him at one point.

Friends who started an appeal on Facebook on Sunday asking for help in finding Jack, said at lunchtime on Tuesday that Jack had been found. However police have now confirmed a body has been found.

Members of West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team worked alongside search dog Merryn of Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England, together with the police and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, to search through the night in rural and urban locations, from 11pm until being stood down at 5am.

Teams then began searching again at 10am, working alongside the police a drone team, the police helicopter and search dog Merryn. 

East Cornwall Search & Rescue Team were also called in with search dog TegOrs. 

The teams said: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

"Devon and Cornwall Police would like to thank members of the public for assisting with area searches." 

Earlier Devon and Cornwall Police issued an update over the search for the 21-year-old, saying they feared he could be injured and in need of treatment.

A force spokesperson said: "It’s understood that Jack had been travelling in a vehicle that was involved in a serious collision and officers are concerned that he may have sustained a serious injury and could require medical treatment."

More than 6,300 people shared an appeal on Facebook. 

Earlier a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police saying: "Officers are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of Jack Thomas, a 21-year-old man from Cornwall.

"Jack’s last known whereabouts was in the area of Chiverton Cross Roundabout in the early hours of Sunday, June 11.

"It’s understood that Jack had been travelling in a vehicle that was involved in a serious collision and officers are concerned that he may have sustained a serious injury and could require medical treatment.

"Jack is described as a white male, 6ft tall with blonde hair. He was last seen wearing a dark jumper and jeans.

"Searches and enquiries are ongoing in order to locate him but police would like to hear from anyone who has seen his or knows of his whereabouts to get in touch."

This article has been updated following an amendment from police to say that Mr Thomas was found at Chiverton, not Chacewater as stated in their original statement.
