A single vehicle accident has closed the A39 Southbound this afternoon with heavy queues of traffic reported.
Police say one vehicle was involved in the accident at the Carnon Gate roundabout at around 10.55am this morning.
They say they were called by the ambulance service which was already at the scene attending to a casualty. It was reported that the vehicle had collided with a metal railing.
It said the driver of the car was taken to hospital but they said his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
A police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at 10.55am today to Carnon Gate roundabout by the Ambulance service who were in attendance at the scene of a single vehicle collision.
"It was reported that the vehicle had collided with a metal railing. The driver has been taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
"The road remains closed at this time."
Inrix traffic reporting website reported: "Slow traffic due to accident, one vehicle involved from A39 (Carnon Downs Roundabout, Carnon Downs) to Carnon Gate Roundabout (Devoran).Congestion to traffic diverting away from the Premier Inn towards Perranwell Station. Eastbound has re opened, affecting traffic between Truro and Penryn."
Many people reported being caught up in the chaos this morning.
At 1.50pm Debbie Roberts said on Facebook: "A lady I work with in Devoran has just got home to Carnon Downs, she said traffic is now being allowed up the bypass from the Devoran direction. Falmouth bound is going through Carnon Downs."
Jordan Stephens reported: "We drove through just after the accident had happened a Honda jazz looked like it had lost control over Devoran roundabout and hit the street light just off the Falmouth exit"
Emilie Brown reported an hour ago on Facebook: "Just driven home to Carnon downs through Perranwell and it’s nose to tail all the way. Depending on where your appointment is and how important it is I would suggest not going."
