It's that time of the year when Cornwall's dogs have to make do with exercising in woods, parks and on pavements - as going for a walk on 48 of the Duchy's beaches will soon be strictly forbidden during certain times.
If dog owners are caught flouting the Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) then they will be handed a £100 fine - which otherwise could have been spent on a year's supply of poo bags or dog treats.
Now a Freedom of Information (FOI) request of Cornwall Council has revealed just how many dog owners have been fined between 2020 and 2022, as well as the beaches on which you are most likely to get caught and even which day of the week is the most likely to be fined.
The majority of the beaches in Cornwall covered by the PSPOs see the restrictions running throughout July and August. However, for beaches with Blue Flag status the orders operate from May 15 to September 30. Other privately owned beaches may have their own local restrictions in force.

The FOI reveals that five fixed penalty notices (FPNs) were issued in 2020, 22 in 2021 and 16 in 2022. Tuesday was the day of the week when most notices were issued, with ten across the 2020-22 period - compared to just three on a Sunday.
There were 42 fines issued in all. The beach where you are most likely to receive a fine is Porth near Newquay with 15 notices issued across the three years.
Other beaches where fines were issued to naughty dog owners were Praa Sands (4), Gyllyngvase in Falmouth (2), four beaches in Hayle (8), Porthtowan (2), Carbis Bay (1), two St Ives beaches (2) and Polzeath (8).
