Wendron United FC have been recognised for their fair play and respectful attitude over the past season, writes Joss Bray.
South Peninsula League secretary Phil Hiscox has published a review at the end of the 2022/23 Season, which includes a multitude of information such as tables, goal-scorers, attendances, and past records.
Wendron United topped the table in the FA Respect Awards with a 90.77 highest average and were third in the Fair Play Table (West), with 73 points (lowest score wins).
The Respect Award marks are awarded by referees on a return sheet sent in after each game, home and away, and are out of 100. Phil said the Wendron score of 90.77 was the highest he had ever known.
It's not unusual for the winner to average in the mid 80s, so to get above 90 is exceptional.
Cornwall FA responded to congratulate Wendron on the award and nobody has come up with a similar club, with a better average - certainly not in Steps 1 to 6.
Wendron came third in the SWPL (West) Fair Play Table - a tremendous achievement, when teams at the top do not always have the best disiplinary records.
This is a totting up of red and yellow cards and sin bins and allotting them 4 points for a Red, 2 for a yellow and 1 for a Sin Bin-whilst factual and a good indicator, it doesn't allow for the fact that some Reds can be for 2 handballs, and another Red could be for head-butting someone !
F.A Respect Mark Awards are sponsored by Kitchen Kit. Premier West Winners Wendron Utd. received £300 . For finishing third, in the Kitchen Kit Fair Play Award (West ) Wendron were awarded £100.
