Hundreds of local families and children from across Helston flocked to a newly re-opened play park in the town at the weekend.
Members from Helston Town Council have announced that the play park at King George V playing area in Coronation Gardens has officially opened after receiving £37,000 from Cornwall Council in February to help towards the project from the second round of its Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Fund.
The event on Sunday was said to be a "true community collaboration" of many local organisations including the Town Council, Helston Climate Action Group, Coastline Housing, Lizard Child Trust, Cober Valley Rotary, CAST, and the Helston Scouts.
Stallholders were wide-ranging to capture the interest of children, adults, and families. These included the Cornwall Wildlife Trust with a hedgehog workshop, herbal workshops with Sally Bowers of Wise Way Herbs, animal face painting by Funny Faces, One Blue Eye who brought along his plastic shredding and recycling bicycle.

Coastline Housing interacted with local tenants and artistic clay workshops run by CAST helped children create new animals for the park out of clay.
Helston Climate Action Group ran a range of activities including planting, a nature treasure hunt, and a wishing tree where people wrote or drew their hopes and wishes for the park.
There were free healthy snacks and refreshments for all in the Scout Hut, which were prepared and served by Helston Town Council, Lizard Child Trust, and members of the Cober Valley Rotary.
At 12pm, the re-opening ceremony took place at the new park with the ribbon being cut by the new town mayor cllr Miles Kenchington, deputy mayor cllr Nicola Boase and a pupil from St Michaels School.
After a short speech from the mayor and the ribbon cutting, hoards of youngsters eagerly ran into the play park to enjoy the new equipment for hours.
Cllr Miles Kenchington said: “It is great to see so many children enjoying the new range of equipment which spans the age groups and to see more family members and carers relaxing at the new and inclusive seating.
“The new pathways to the equipment make the park so much more accessible for all.”
