Rock-based Sharp’s Brewery has announced they will sponsor Camborne RFC again for another two years via its flagship brand, Doom Bar.

The club’s brand-new playing kit has just been released to coincide with the commencement of formal training.

As in previous years, the partnership deal also includes Sharp’s providing support through branded flags, reusable plastic beer cups and branding around the club’s ground. Furthermore, Camborne RFC will continue refreshing clubgoers and spectators with Sharp’s products in the clubhouse, including Doom Bar and Atlantic Pale Ale.

In addition to the renovation works made possible through the government-backed Camborne Town Deal bid, the club has some exciting projects lined up for summer 2023. From mid-July, the team will start laying the foundations and services for a brand-new catering/bar unit on the recreation ground.

This will be in the form of a 20ft shipping container that will replace the affectionately referred to as ‘cubby hole’ that provided light refreshments. The unit will be split so that half is a bar selling alcohol and soft drinks. This will operate alongside the existing clubhouse bar to keep up with demand.

Early July will also see an expansion of the seating area outside of the clubhouse, by an additional twelve tables. The renovations to the changing rooms at ‘The Rec’ and improvements to the ‘Crane Park’ pitch with new floodlights powered by solar panels should commence in March 2024.

Colin Stevenson from the club sponsorship and community team said: “We’re delighted to have the support of Sharp’s again this season and beyond.

"Since the local company came on board around 6 years ago, we have had much success (if you remove the Covid-19 pandemic period of course) and the ongoing financial support of the UK’s number one cask ale brand is exceedingly helpful and much appreciated.

"Last season was a particularly triumphant one for us and now we are in national leagues which is just brilliant. We really feel on top of our game now.”

Colin continued: "We all feel incredibly optimistic about the upcoming season.

"We have exciting structural changes to the club itself, but we also have some big games coming up – perhaps the biggest being against Redruth on September 9th, 2023. Believe it or not, we haven’t played against Redruth in a league game since the early 90s!”

For fourteen grassroots rugby clubs across Cornwall, the ongoing sponsorship and support of Sharp’s Brewery’s Doom Bar, has aided their effort both on, and off those pitches in a plethora of different ways.

Wadebridge Camels, St Austell, Truro, Helston, St Ives, Penryn, St Just, Bude, Hayle, Saltash, Launceston, Liskeard-Looe, Cornwall Rugby League FC, and Camborne RFCs are all working with Doom Bar to help realise their club’s long-term visions.

Sharp’s regional on-trade manager, Dan Frost said: “At Sharp’s, we are thrilled to be able to support these local grassroots clubs, including Camborne RFC.

“Having grown up playing rugby across Cornwall, it also means a great deal to me personally as well as professionally. Grassroots sport is so vital to local communities, it brings people together and creates a sense of community and teamwork. We are thrilled to be continuing our long-term relationship with Camborne RFC who are doing incredible things and just hope that the investment we make helps build success within their teams. We wish them and all of the club good luck for the upcoming season.”

One of Camborne RFC’s long-term objectives is to provide sustainable rugby at the highest achievable level and to make the club a ‘proper’ community rugby hub with the best facilities in Cornwall.
