A FIRE has destroyed a popular quayside cafe in Penryn as the owners were setting up for the day.

No-one was hurt in the fire but Deborah the owner of the Cafe On The Quay on Commercial Road said it had started just after they arrived for work this morning (July 9).

She said they had just come outside to set up the gazebo as usual but as one of the workers went to go back inside the whole of the inside went up in flames.

She said they had done everything the same as they had for the past 29 years but now that had all gone.

The fire completely destroyed the premises with the inside completely gutted.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) crews from Falmouth and Truro attended the fire at the café on Commercial Road.

They said a large amount of smoke is covering the carriageway and urged motorists to stay away if possible. However the road is now clear.
