A FUNDRAISING football tournament will be taking place this weekend in order to raise money for a number of cancer charities, writes Joss Bray.
On Sunday, July 16, Wendron hosts its annual Sharon Wood Mini Football Tournament from 9am To 5pm, with organisers saying the event promises to be another amazing family day out.
The Sharon Wood Tournament is one of the largest one-day mini-football events in the South West, attracting over 100 teams of various age groups.
The aim is to raise money for Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie & other Cancer Charities.
The event was started by Roger Cleave in 2000, in memory of the much loved Sharon Wood, who was a founding member of the youth set up at Wendron, but sadly died from Cancer in 1999.
Up to last year the tournament has raised £86,000, of which 50% goes to charity and the remainder towards maintaining the Wendron Youth Section and the development of the Club.
