THE huge cargo ship which was the subject of a multi-agency rescue operation this week has been towed to safer waters for inspection.
The Mazarine cargo ship came into difficulties off the coast of Cornwall, is residing just outside the harbour limits of Falmouth to carry out inspections after it was towed away by Falmouth Tug Mercia.
The cargo ship lost power on Monday and ran aground near Wolf Rock lighthouse off the Isles of Scilly. Two lifeboats from Sennen and Penlee Lifeboat were sent to the ship's location yesterday along with a Coastguard helicopter in case the crew needed to be evacuated.

Having been refloated and drifting for several hours, the 31,000-tonne ship is now in safer waters and undergoing the relevant inspections.
A spokesperson for the MCA said: "A tug, escorted by firstly the Lizard RNLI lifeboat and then Falmouth's, towed the vessel east of the Lizard where it remains while relevant inspections are carried out in sheltered waters.”
Speaking to BBC Radio Cornwall, Will Bond of Falmouth Coastguard said: "It's not quite in Falmouth. It is just outside harbour limits. The reason they have come into safer waters is just to carry out some inspections."
