Thousands of people made their way to Cornwall's biggest one-day agricultural event today (Monday). 

Stithians Show returned for 2023 with a new traffic flow system in place to avoid the gridlock that occurred last year. 

As previously reported in the Packet, visitors driving to the show were stuck for hours trying to get into the event with organisers blaming a combination of good weather and attendance numbers.

However, committee members revealed a new traffic flow system for this year, to ensure traffic into the showground ran more smoothly, with a new entrance into the horse section and a new traffic control team.

As part of the usual tradition, a march took place where the president of the Stithians Show officially opened the event and hoisted the Stithians Agricultural Association flag, the Union Flag, and the St Piran flag.

The main ring was busy with heavy horses, show jumping, and a parade of prize-winning cattle. 

Farmers around the Duchy and Devon brought their prize-winning cattle with them, as well as sheep, goats, pigs, and also some rare breeds.

There was also a section for guinea pigs, racing pigeons and caged birds, along with dog agility, Cornish wrestling and fairground rides for children.
