Pupils from Falmouth School have been helping to rectify damage caused to a park by anti-social behaviour as part of their work experience.

Last Wednesday (July 19) students from Falmouth School took part in a partnership project between Falmouth Town Council, Cormac Garden Team and Black Watch from Falmouth Community Fire Station.

The students took part in several activities in Queen Mary Gardens, helping to rectify some of the damage caused by recent anti-social behaviour in the area.

They litter-picked, re-planted flower beds, painted over graffiti, dug out the bog bed ready for replanting, and took part in general garden maintenance, gaining an insight into the work that goes into ensuring that these award-winning Gardens look their best for all to enjoy.

Black Watch worked alongside the students to give a helping hand and informally talk about fire safety.

Jacqui Owen, Visitor and Community Engagement Officer for Falmouth Town Council in partnership with Cormac said, “The whole team was really impressed with the students’ motivation and hard work throughout the session.

"Every year we work with the primary schools in Falmouth to plant up the bedding in Queen Mary Gardens, but because of academic pressures, it is much more difficult to organise working with secondary schools.

"This session was so important, giving the students a much deeper understanding of all that is involved in maintaining these award-winning Gardens, which are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. We loved working with them and hope to do more in the future.”
