An annual music festival raising money for mental health charities in memory of a young man with "an infectious spirit" returns this weekend.

Lukefest has taken place since 2019, when the family of Luke Connolly decided to hold an event in memory.

A year earlier Luke had passed away after struggles with mental health issues, and now each August his family holds the event, which attracts a huge amount of support every year.

This year's festival will take place this Saturday, July 29, starting at 12pm at The Queen's Arms pub in Breage, raising money for mental health charities Man Down and Your Voice.

There will be a bouncy castle, barbecue, the Wonka Wagon will visit, and a raffle will take place at 5pm, with live music throughout the day. The event runs until 11pm.

Performing this year will be Longtide, The Dirty Repeats, Mr & Mrs Blue Sky, Toby Webb, Baby Brew, Marmalade Shed, Broken Down and Guilty Pleasures.

The Dirty Repeats have stepped in to replace Baz, who is unable to now take part as originally planned.

Luke, who had studied at Helston Community College, wanted to make the world a better place: he fed the homeless, promoted gambling restrictions, and was a huge advocate for people to speak up about their mental health. Luke also ran as a local election candidate in his area.

Writing on the Lukefest tribute page previously, Luke's sister Amy Connolly paid tribute to her brother saying: "Luke brightened not just our lives, but of all the people he knew.

"He was someone with genuine empathy, an infectious spirit, always had the ability to make others happy, and had time for anyone.

"All he ever wanted was to make the world a better place for people.

"There are no words that I could ever put together that will do him justice, and no words to ever describe just how much of an incredible young man he was.”
