Three Cornwall venues have been named among the best coastal cafes/restaurants by the sea in the UK.

In a list from the Good Food Guide, a total of 23 were named, with Cornwall's three meaning they had the joint-most of any county, alongside Devon and Dorset.

Rick Stein's Cafe in Padstow, Fresh From the Sea in Port Isaac and Porthminster Cafe in St Ives were the ones that made the list.

What was said about the Cornwall coastal cafes?

Rick Stein has numerous establishments throughout Padstow and the cafe of his name is quite well-received, having got a 4/5 score on Tripadvisor from 2,431 reviews.

The Good Food Guide praised it for its "briny freshness and globetrotting flavours" which was evidenced in dishes such as Thai fishcakes, mussels with black beans, garlic and ginger.

It adds: "The kitchen is also happy to go off-piste, offering chargrilled rump steak with peppery rocket, thin-cut chips and béarnaise sauce, as well as a veggie stew of tomatoes, aubergines and tamarind – plus sourdough for dunking."

Meanwhile, Fresh From the Sea was commended as a "no-fuss daytime café" which placed an emphasis on "responsible fishing".

It adds: "Visitors delight at the sight of a counter full of tempting seafood – lobsters, crabs, mackerel and much, much more."

Particular dishes to look out for include lobster salad, smoked mackerel pâté, or the feast platter, which contains whole lobster, dressed crab, and Porthilly oysters.

It has also been well-received on Tripadvisor, with a 4.5/5 score from 464 reviews.

Finally, the Porthminster Cafe is described as a "serene white building on a broad sandy beach" which offers "fabulous panoramic views" for its diners.

It adds: "Fish and seafood are the specialities (whole Dover sole or shellfish linguine, perhaps), with enticing meat and vegetarian options too (Indonesian curries, fried halloumi with tomato and bean cassoulet)."

Additionally, it has a wine list which "comes at manageable prices".

Alongside that, it has also earnt excellent reviews on Tripadvisor, with a 4.5/5 score from 3,727 ratings.

One reviewer wrote: "As soon as we walked in, the staff were exceptionally friendly and put us on a great table at the top of the restaurant.

"Our starters of crab linguine and scallops were excellent as was one of the mains which was the fish and chips. But the absolute star of the show was the fish curry which was a superb dish and highly recommended.

"Price point of the food is toppy but justifiable, and the wine was good value given the quality."
