More than 1,900 homes in Cornwall are without power this afternoon after strong winds brought down power lines and interrupted supplies thanks to Storm Antoni battering the Duchy. 

National Grid said it was working to repair feeds as quickly as possible, although some homes are unlikely to see a return of their electricity until the evening.

In total, 1,929 properties are currently without power, according to incidents reported to National Grid.

One of the worst affected areas is Trewithian, Roseland Peninsula, where 738 homes have power cuts.

This has been described as a “high voltage” incident, meaning it is affecting the wider area.

Engineers hope to have the power back by 5pm, after the issue was reported at 11.18am.

Nearby St Mawes has 23 properties off, at postcodes TR2 5BH, TR2 5BJ, TR2 5BL, TR2 5BN, TR2 5BP, TR2 5DB.

Reported at 12.35pm, engineers had hoped to connect properties by 3.30pm but the issue still remains live on National Grid’s map of power cuts.

Another badly hit part of Cornwall is the Redruth area, where 497 homes are affected.
