FOUR bakeries from Cornwall have ranked at the top of a list compiled by a national newspaper.
The Times has compiled a list of bakeries local foodies have revealed as their favourite places for artisan bread, perfect pastries, and sweet treats galore.
The top four results on the list can all be found in Cornwall, with Da Bara in St Mawes topping the list, followed by Coombeshead Farm, near Launceston, St Mawes Bakery in St Mawes, and St Agnes Bakery in St Agnes.
Da Bara in St Mawes came top of the list, and the family-run business has 20 reviews on trip advisor classing it as 'excellent.' The bakery opened in St Mawes in 2016 and is known for its award-winning breads, pastries, coffee and preserves.
On one of its many Trip Advisor reviews, St Mawes Bakery is a local family-owned business. It has been running for over 100 years now. The bakery says it takes pride in its freshly baked and made products including our delicious traditional pasties which are made to a recipe as old as they are.
According to its website, Coombeshead Farm Bakery, headed up by Ben Glazer, supplies restaurants, hotels and farm shops around Cornwall, the West Country, and beyond with organic sourdough wares, made from heritage varieties of wheat, spelt and rye, much of which is stone ground on site from grain grown by Fred Price at Gothelney Farm.
The bakery itself sits in the old stable block across the courtyard from the relative hustle and bustle of the restaurant, kitchen, and dining room, which was converted with help from a grant from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
The St Agnes bakery is based on Churchtown in St Agnes and has over 191 'excellent' reviews on Trip Advisor. Many of their reviews claim that the pasties on sale are "the best Cornish pasties."
