Police patrolling one of Cornwall’s incident blackspots were forced to stop a vehicle this morning for carrying “an incredibly insecure load”.
Although not giving the exact location, the roads policing team of Devon and Cornwall Police said officers had been focussing on one of the “high harm routes” in the Penryn area today (Friday) when it happened.
The pickup truck was carrying some extremely long piping, jutting out metres in front of the vehicle.
The load was described as “likely to cause danger” by the police, who have reported the driver.
Posting a photo of the vehicle, a member of the policing team said: “[A] focused patrol on one of our high harm routes this morning resulted in this vehicle being stopped with an incredibly insecure load likely to cause danger.
“Load moved to a more appropriate vehicle.”

It’s been another busy week for Devon and Cornwall’s traffic officers.
The Devon and Cornwall Police No Excuse road safety team, which was set up to tackle the ‘Fatal Five’ issues on the region’s roads, stopped an HGV for speeding – the driver of which had only just completed a speed awareness court, and was already waiting for points for a further offence.
The team reported: “HGV stopped on the A388 at Kelly Bray due to travelling at 45mph in a posted 30mph limit.
“The driver has recently completed a speed awareness course, and is awaiting points for a separate speeding offence. More points to follow.”
And at the weekend, the team stopped a driver for what was described as “a recipe for disaster.”
The motorist could be seen swerving between carriageways and when officers made the stop it became clear why.
A team member said: “This driver was a recipe for disaster, swerving in the carriageways in the St Austell policing area.
“[The] driver failed the roadside breath test, [was] arrested and failed the station test. Prosecution to follow.”
