With the August Bank Holiday now upon us, here’s a round-up of events taking place across the three-day weekend in Cornwall.
Penryn
Penryn Town Fair
A range of family-friendly fun and entertainment on Sunday.
A Town Fair parade will leave Memorial Gardens at 12.50pm heading towards Fish Cross. The 42nd fair will be opened at 1pm by Roger Reynolds, followed by perfrmances from Falmouth Soul Sensation and Tory Wills 'Rock n Roll'. There will also be children's rides including chair-o-plans and the Old Time Striker.
New for 2023 is Richie the Raptor, a mischievous velociraptor who will be making appearances in 20 minutes slots between 1.10pm and 4pm.
At the memorial gardens, visitors will find Punch and Judy up to their usual antics as well as two hours of Cornish wrestling.
Inside the Town Hall, Penryn Camera Club will be hosting an exhibition of photos from around Penryn and volunteers at the Penryn Museum will be around to tell a few tall tales.
Broad Street will be where visitors can find a bumper classic car display, including military vehicles, Royal British Legion Bikes, and electric vehicles, including the popular MG Club.
Lower and Higher Market Street will host various stalls and children's rides including a bucking bronco and a bouncy castle.
Porthleven
Gig Day
Gig racing on Sunday from 11/11.30am onwards
Porthleven Fishermen and Boat Owners’ Association Grand Auction and Raffle
Taking place from 3.30pm on Sunday at the Ship Inn. An annual event held by the Fishermen’s Association to help towards the upkeep of the quayside cranes and general maintenance, including running of the ice house.
Includes items donated by local businesses, as well as fish and crab caught by local fishermen.
Methodist Church flower festival and Choir of 100 Voices
Flower festival in the church all bank holiday weekend, 10am to 8pm daily, with the theme ‘Heroes Through the Ages’.
Songs of Praise with a choir of 100 voices from 7.45pm on Sunday.
Torchlight Procession
This will be taking place on August Bank Holiday (August 29) starting at 8pm from the Moors Recreation Ground. Torches will be available to buy from Four Crows in advance and on the day outside the Harbour Inn. Torches cost £3 each or two for £5.
Breage
Queen’s Arms pub third annual beer festival with live music and Johnny Cowling
Open from 6pm on Friday, August 25, then from 1pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Nine different ales and six still ciders to choose from, plus San Miguel on tap, and a range of street food. Token system in place.
Saturday
2pm - Sammy Jonas
6pm - Dan Tolch and Michael Ross Williams aka 'Proper Job' with popular covers and Cornish anthems
7pm – Comedy from Johnny Cowling
9pm - Proper Job and Dan Tolch finish off
Sunday
3pm - Fox Rox Choir with their 'rock choir' sound
7pm - Black Velvet Irish music
Monday
3pm - Kerrier Male Choir
Praa Sands
Pirates Raft Race
The event returns on Sunday, with racing starting at 12 noon.
All proceeds in aid of St Julia’s Hospice in memory of Lisa Tripconey.
Beach party from 12pm with music, DJs and food, supported by Stone’s Reef and The Welloe.
Helston
Bee-Fest
Held at The Beehive, Bee-Fest runs across the weekend.
Saturday

Flambards
On Bank Holiday Monday Flambards will be opening late for a Fireworks Spectacular, with rides also staying open and an Elton John tribute act performing on stage.
Falmouth
Princess Pavilion Bank Holiday Specials
Sunday
Pendennis Brass at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth this Sunday from 2pm to 4pm on the bandstand. Free entry.
Monday
12pm - Fun Dog Show at the pavilion, with proceeds benefitting Wonky Pets Rescue. Stalls open from midday, with the dog show beginning at 1pm.
Entry is £1 per class, rosettes for 1st to 4th places from judge Lou Southgate.
Classes: Best Pedigree; Best cross-breed; Best rescue; Worst behaved dog; Best child handler; Dog that looks most like its owner; Most appealing eyes; Waggiest tail; Best single-colour; Best multi-colour; Best Puppy up to one year old; Best Dog (one to seven years old); Best Veteran (eight plus years old); Dog the judge would like to take home; Best in show.
7pm - MJ-UK Music and Arts, under the direction of Maria Jagusz, present A Trip Down Broadway on Monday at 7pm. A charitable fundraising concert featuring classic songs from musical shows, including music from Cole Porter, Rogers and Hammerstein, Gilbert and Sullivan, Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber, performed by a group of singers, young professionals or studying at music colleges. Tickets £15 supporting The Chris Treglown Foundation Fund.
Truro
Cornwall Pride
Starting at 12pm with a march at 1pm from Hendra Park to Lemon Quay, with music and movement, standing in solidarity with all marginalised people.
Music through the afternoon on the Boscawen Stage, Pride After Party at 8pm.
BBC Proms
The BBC Proms is coming back to Hall for Cornwall on Sunday at 2pm.
The Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective makes its Proms debut with performances of Schubert’s ‘Trout’ Quintet, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s richly melodic Nonet and songs by George Gerswhin. Tickets from £14 at bbc.co.uk/events/e6gxp6
St Austell
Just4Kids Pop up Parties
Bank Holiday Monday event for all superhero and princess fans in and around St Austell and mid-Cornwall.
Taking place St Stephens Community Centre and Social Club. Princess Party from 11am to 12.15pm, hosted by Ariel, Rapunzel and Cinderella, followed by a Superhero Party from 2pm to 3.15pm hosted by Spiderman, Supergirl and Batgirl.
Each party includes arts and crafts, glitter tattoos, games and dancing. Tickets cost £10 for children, adults are free via https://bookwhen.com/just4kidsparties
