The organisers of the St. Peter’s Church Summer Fete in Flushing trusted in the weather forecast and were proved right, writes Irene Gardiner.
The sun came out as St Peter’s Church Summer Fete, opened by Morwenna Bennett, local Methodist preacher and member of St Peter’s Church, started its proceedings on the Bowling Green in Flushing on August Bank Holiday Monday.
“Where did they all park?” one person was heard to ask, as the people milled around the various stalls, tried their hand at the Coconut Shy and Splat the Rat, bought raffle tickets in anticipation of a super prize, drank Pimm’s, ate Cornish Cream Teas and tried their luck at the Bottle Stall.
Roger Fergus was the nearest to choosing the right mileage of the green Morris Miner, this being 36,672 miles.
The Auction of Promises was a great success, likewise the fun dog show. The winner of best in show at the fun dog show was ‘Star’, owned by Jane Dibb and shown by Beverley. Star was also the proud winner of three other rosettes.
Grateful thanks go to Helen Syrett, Organiser, and to everyone, visitor and helper alike, who made this such a happy and successful occasion.
In total over £3,000 was raised for church funds.’
