Members of staff from The Working Boat pub in Falmouth have raised more than £1,000 to go towards a Cornish mental health charity.
The Working Boat team hosted Cornwall’s only annual Dragon Boat Race event on its quay in July 2023 to raise funds for the Cornish mental health charity Man Down.
The total raised from the boat race and weekly pub quizzes totalled £1,109 and was then donated to the charity to help support their members by rolling out more venues across Cornwall and therefore helping more men to ‘talk about it’.
Hannah Martin, manager of The Working Boat said: “We’re so excited to share how much money we raised for Man Down during our Dragon Boat Race Day.
“They were also our chosen charity throughout July, during our Sunday night pub quizzes, where we’ve managed to raise an additional £491.
“We hope that the total amount raised will help the Man Down team to continue to make a difference in the work they do across Cornwall.
“We also want to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the racing. We can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
Spectators from far and wide headed to The Working Boat’s unique location to enjoy this fun all-day event, which saw members of Mylor Sailing Club coming out as champions, followed closely by Marnick Builders in second place and the team from Man Down in third place.
Those who are keen to take part in next year’s event on Saturday 27th July 2024 can register their team’s interest by emailing chrisdodimead@dragonboatevents.com.
